Arthritis is an inflammatory disease that affects the joints. There are different types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Gout is also considered a form of arthritis because of how it affects the joints in the extremities. While rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder, osteoarthritis often is considered a part of the aging process and deterioration of bone tissue.
As an autoimmune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis is the result of the body attacking its own tissues. The immune system attacks healthy tissues in the joints, causing the connective tissue to be damaged. With osteoarthritis, the bone loss that starts to occur with age can lead to the deterioration of the joints.
The most common symptoms of arthritis are:
An individual’s symptoms may vary in intensity. Some people will have all of the symptoms, while others may only have the pain and inflammation. The severity of the symptoms will depend on your level of activity and overall health.
While arthritis can’t be “cured”, it can be successfully treated so that the individual lives as comfortably as possible. Over the counter remedies in the form of pain/inflammation reducers and creams do provide relief for mild pain and inflammation. Physical therapy and massage may also help to keep the muscles that support the joints strong and healthy. In severe cases, joint repair or replacement surgeries may need to be considered.
It is estimated that close to 40 million Americans deal with some form of arthritis on a daily basis. Treatment options are available and can dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life if they follow their doctor’s orders.
I have had back problems for most of my life and worked with a very painful back for more than 40 years. I lived on Ibuprofen for 30 years just to function but resisted taking prescription pain medication because of my profession. I am so grateful for HF10, which has given me 95% pain relief consistently since I got my implant in late December 2019 I take a 1.5-mile walk on the beach every morning and my goal is to run a 5K again. I’m doing great!
All the pain Dr I have been to 7+ he is the only one that did not give up and just want to give be stronger drugs. keep working at it and has helped me get to be close to pain free and off the pills
To me, it matters if my treating Doctor is competent, experienced, and committed to his patients. Casey Fisher is very competent; he explains procedures in a way that shows his experience; and once you meet him he discusses treatment options. It is obvious he is committed to his patients.
